Azania Bank Ltd (formally 1st Adili Bancorp Ltd) is now a Commercial Bank was established in 1995 following the liberalization of the banking sector. The initiative of setting up the bank came from indigenous Tanzanians who teamed up with the two social security fund in the country, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and Parastatal Pension Fund (PPF) to support the start up of the bank. The bank also obtained participation from international aid organisations such as Swedish International Development Agency (through SwedFund).
